Hockley County Release Meaning
A person is released from Hockley County Jail when that booking ends, but the next destination matters. The person may leave for the community after bond, a court order, dismissal, or time served. The jail may instead transfer the person to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, another county, a federal authority, or immigration custody. A transfer ends the Hockley booking without ending all custody. The Hockley County Sheriff's Office holds the jail record, while a court order explains the legal event behind it.
The county roster is a current-custody snapshot. Its affirmative label, CURRENTLY BOOKED, supports that the person was in the jail dataset when viewed. Once the card vanishes, absence proves only that the person is no longer listed. It does not prove freedom, acquittal, dismissal, or sentence discharge. A discharge is completion of the sentence and any attached supervision. Parole is conditional release from prison. Probation, called community supervision in Texas, is imposed by a court and is not parole.
Key distinction: roster removal is a lead. The final jail record or receiving agency identifies whether Hockley custody ended in community release or transfer.
Hockley County Release Routes
The correct record source changes with the route out. Bond information may appear while a booking is active, yet a dollar amount is not proof that money was paid or release was carried out. A signed order may authorize release before jail staff finish processing it. The jail's final timestamp records the custody event. Court, jail, and receiving-agency records should therefore be read together when the destination is unclear.
| Route | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Release after approved bond processing | Jail release log and bond order |
| Time served | A sentence or jail term has been credited as complete | Judgment plus jail release time |
| Dismissal or court order | The court directs the legal result | Signed order and jail execution record |
| TDCJ transfer | State custody begins; this is not community release | TDCJ offender record |
| Federal or ICE transfer | A federal agency assumes custody | BOP, federal court, USMS, or ICE record |
| Parole or probation | The person lives outside a facility under supervision | TDCJ Parole Division or Hockley County CSCD |
Death or a booking correction can also remove a record from a current view. No single disappearance supplies the reason. Match the person's full name with a date of birth, booking date, cause number, or agency identifier before connecting records.
Did Hockley Bond Cause Release?
The Hockley roster publishes a Total Bond field and charge-level amounts. Some totals may be shown as denied. Those figures describe the booking at the time the card was displayed. They do not establish payment, approval by a surety, acceptance by the jail, or the actual act of release. Multiple charges may also carry different terms, so one payable amount does not resolve every hold on the booking.
Confirm a bond-out through the final jail release record and the relevant court order. Ask for the exact release date and time, the coded release reason, bond disposition, and releasing authority. If another hold kept the person in custody, the jail record should identify the transfer or remaining basis. The county-authorized roster is useful for the active bond display, but it is not a paid-bond receipt or release ledger.
Hockley County Release Record Fields
The strongest county proof is the final booking and release record maintained by the Sheriff's Office. Hockley's public interface does not expose a release-date field, so a focused request should name the booking and each needed field. Asking for existing records is better than asking staff to create a narrative. The inventory below states what to request. It does not claim that every item appears in one standard export.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booking number | Connects the request to one custody episode |
| Booking date and time | Marks the start of that jail record |
| Actual release date and time | Shows when Hockley custody ended |
| Release type or reason | Distinguishes bond, court order, time served, or transfer |
| Releasing authority | Names the office or order that authorized the event |
| Charge and case identifiers | Connect the jail entry with the correct court case |
| Bond disposition | Records the bond status at release |
| Receiving agency or destination | Shows whether another authority took custody |
| Booking photograph | Identifies the image tied to that booking, if releasable |
A release record does not decide guilt. It documents custody administration. Court records separately show dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, or another case result, while the jail record supplies the physical release time.
Request Hockley County Release Records
Hockley County accepts public-information requests by email, mail, or in person. The centralized address is useful after a roster card has disappeared. Keep the request narrow. Supply the full name, date of birth if known, booking or arrest date, and a short date range. Ask for the booking sheet, final release screen or log, release type, receiving agency if transferred, and the booking photograph as a separate item.
- Identify the exact booking with more than a name.
- Email publicinforequest@hockleycounty.org, or mail or deliver the request to 802 Houston St., Suite 103, Levelland, TX 79336.
- State that the request seeks existing records under the Texas Public Information Act.
- List the release fields and photo needed, and prefer electronic copies.
- Ask for notice before charges exceed a chosen limit.
The Texas Attorney General says an agency must respond promptly and generally take one of the prescribed actions within ten business days. It may release information, give an availability date, seek an Open Records Division ruling, state that no responsive record exists, or cite a prior withholding determination. That deadline is not a promise that every record arrives within ten days. Under the state charge rules, a written estimate process applies when anticipated charges exceed $40. No local per-page jail-record fee was found, so none should be assumed.
Hockley Release Record Law
The Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, favors access to governmental information unless another law permits or requires withholding. Law-enforcement material may fall within Section 552.108 when disclosure would interfere with an active matter. Even then, Section 552.108(c) preserves access to basic information about an arrested person, an arrest, or a crime, subject to other confidentiality laws.
Limits remain important. Juvenile information, victim-identifying data, medical information, expunged material, and records under nondisclosure can require different treatment. An expunction is a court-ordered statutory process that removes qualifying records. Nondisclosure restricts public disclosure in qualifying cases but is not the same process. Release alone does not create eligibility for either remedy.
For state-prison records, Section 552.029 expressly identifies selected TDCJ facts as public, including the inmate number, assigned unit, conviction and sentence, TDCJ photograph, and certain release and parole dates. Hockley County cannot supply TDCJ's state record, and TDCJ cannot substitute for the county jail's release log.
Hockley Release Court Trail
Hockley divides criminal case access by court level. The District Clerk provides district-court access, links its records search, and posts expunction and nondisclosure resources. County Court dockets provide a separate misdemeanor trail. A docket entry is a route to the case, not final proof that the jail carried out a release.
Seek the signed judgment, dismissal, sentence, bond order, commitment, or discharge order. Then compare it with the jail's execution record. A dismissal can explain the legal basis but not the precise release hour. A time-served judgment can explain why release was due, while another warrant or detainer may still delay departure. The court file and jail file answer related but distinct questions.
Texas reorganized its principal adult expunction law into Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A, effective in 2025. Eligibility depends on the statutory facts and is not automatic after dismissal or release. The District Clerk's official resources are the local starting point for procedure and filing information.
Hockley Release Record Legal Help
Hockley County lies within the service area of Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas. TexasLawHelp lists adult criminal-record and expunction help among the organization's topics. That does not promise representation or establish that a particular released person qualifies for expunction or nondisclosure.
Clinic dates, service schedules, and eligibility can change. Use the live directory rather than relying on a past event date. The District Clerk's expunction and nondisclosure materials provide the official local procedural starting point, while legal aid may help a qualifying person understand which remedy fits the actual court result.
Hockley Jail Population Context
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards' incarceration-rate report provides a careful historical snapshot. For its stated 2021 to 2022 measurement period, it listed Hockley County with a capacity of 64, an average daily population of 70, and a county population of 21,537. These figures are not current occupancy and do not count annual releases.
The figures explain why a live roster can change often, but no release volume should be derived from them. Capacity and average population measure operations, not how many people left custody or which release route applied.
Find Hockley County Released Inmates
A released-first search starts by deciding which custody system held the person. The Hockley roster covers the county jail. TDCJ covers state-prison custody and parole. BOP covers federal prison records from 1982 forward. ICE has a limited detainee locator. Court files preserve the legal case after a live custody card disappears.
- Open the jail roster through the official Sheriff's page and check Current Inmates.
- Use 24 Hours Arrests or Inmates by Arrest Date to locate the booking trail, without calling either a release list.
- If the person was present and is now absent, call the jail at 806-894-9334 for the release date, reason, and destination.
- Request the final booking and release record when written proof is needed.
- Review the correct court case for the order or disposition.
- If the result was a transfer, follow the receiving authority in TDCJ, BOP, ICE, or another county system.
The separate Hockley County Jail release page provides facility contact and record-routing detail. For any route, use at least two identifiers. Common names and similar booking dates can otherwise create a false match.
Hockley Jail Release Search Limits
The county-authorized InterOpWeb navigation has three views: Current Inmates, 24 Hours Arrests, and Inmates by Arrest Date. It has no public 24-hour release tab, 72-hour release tab, release-history view, release-reason field, or release-date field. The words “24 Hours Arrests” describe entry into custody, not exit.
No official refresh cadence or retention period was located. Avoid treating the roster as real time. A person present in an arrest-date result but missing from Current Inmates may have left Hockley custody, yet that comparison cannot state when, why, or where the person went. The official Sheriff page and jail line are the authoritative starting points.
When available for Hockley, Texas IVSS-Counties may show a custody event. It still requires close reading because transfer to TDCJ is a separate event and is not a community release. The durable fallback is the final release or transfer sheet.
Hockley TDCJ Release Lookup
The TDCJ Online Inmate Search applies when a Hockley case led to state prison. It is not a county booking archive. Search by TDCJ number or State Identification number when possible. A name search should be checked against date of birth and other identifiers before opening the detail record.
| Search item | Use | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| TDCJ number | Strong state identifier | Use the complete number |
| SID number | State identification match | Confirm it belongs to the person |
| Name | Broad search route | Never rely on name alone |
| Date of birth | Helps distinguish matches | Compare the full record |
| Projected Release Date | Calculated estimate | Not proof of actual release |
| Scheduled date and location | Shows later processing stage | TDCJ warns that the date may change |
The TDCJ email information service is a free alternative. Send the full name and seven-digit TDCJ number to pia@tdcj.texas.gov. Without that number, give the exact date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction. Telephone channels also serve searches that need clarification.
The official state search screen shows the fields used for a TDCJ match.

This state source should be used only after confirming that the person entered TDCJ custody.
Hockley Release Notification Search
Hockley's Sheriff page still displays legacy VINELink branding, but Texas changed county notification systems on September 1, 2025. The Attorney General directs users to Texas IVSS-Counties. Existing VINE registrations were migrated. Hockley participation must be checked inside the current portal rather than assumed from the old link.
County IVSS may send notice of booking, release, court changes, death, escape, or transfer to TDCJ for participating counties. A transfer event must not be read as release to the community. Users may manage text, telephone, and email preferences. Registration information is confidential, and the system is free.
TDCJ operates a separate IVSS system for state prisoners and people on parole or mandatory supervision. County VINE registration does not turn a county booking into a TDCJ record. Choose the system based on actual custody.
Hockley Post-Release Supervision
Parole and probation route to different offices. Hockley County CSCD handles court-ordered community supervision. TDCJ's county directory assigns Hockley parole matters to the Lubbock District Parole Office in Region V. The sentencing order or TDCJ record should establish which office applies before a call is made.
- Parole
- Conditional release from state prison by a Board decision while the sentence continues.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision, which can occur without a TDCJ prison release.
- Mandatory supervision
- A supervised TDCJ release category governed by eligibility and review rules.
- Discharge
- Completion of incarceration and any remaining parole, mandatory supervision, or community supervision.
A favorable parole vote is not the same as physical release. TDCJ Review and Release Processing must finish required checks and issue a release certificate. The supervision office can then help verify ongoing status. An alleged absconder or warrant status also does not prove current jail custody; the holding agency must be checked separately.
Hockley Federal Release Records
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners from 1982 forward. A past release date with no facility, or a RELEASED label, means the person is no longer in BOP custody. It does not rule out federal supervision or entry into another jail, prison, or immigration system. Ordinary Hockley County and TDCJ records do not belong in BOP.
ICE's Online Detainee Locator includes present ICE custody and certain releases from the prior 60 days. A Hockley jail transfer to ICE is not community release. An immigration detainer may ask a jail to hold a person briefly beyond the time it otherwise would have released them so federal officers can assume custody. For older ICE matters, a non-match is weak evidence because the locator's released-person window is limited.
The U.S. Marshals Service has no general public released-prisoner locator like BOP. Federal court orders and the holding facility are the better paths for federal pretrial custody. After a federal sentence enters BOP, use the BOP record.
Hockley Release Status Sources
Each source below proves a narrow fact. Using the wrong one can turn a transfer into a claimed release or a projected date into a claimed past event.
| Source | What it supports | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Current Inmates | Present listing in Hockley jail data | Why a missing person left |
| County release record | Actual end time, reason, and destination | Full court outcome |
| Court order | Legal disposition or authority | Exact jail execution time |
| TDCJ record | State custody, dates, parole, or discharge | County-only booking release |
| IVSS | Custody-change notice in the correct system | Community freedom unless event text says so |
| BOP locator | Federal BOP custody or past release | Other custody or supervision |
| ICE ODLS | Present ICE custody or limited recent release data | Older release history |
Question: Why did a released Hockley County inmate vanish from the roster? The roster is built for current custody and recent arrests, not a durable release archive. Obtain the final release sheet and court order to learn the actual route.
Hockley County Release Facility
Hockley County Jail, also called Hockley County Detention Center in county material, is the only local custody facility resolved from the official sources. It is operated by the Hockley County Sheriff's Office at 1310 Avenue H in Levelland. Arresting agencies shown on its roster do not become separate long-term detention facilities merely because they made an arrest.
| Facility | Release path | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Hockley County Jail | Community release, another jail, TDCJ, or federal transfer, as stated in the final booking record | Jail 806-894-9334 |
For a community release, use the jail record and court disposition. For a TDCJ transfer, wait for state intake and use the state offender search. Federal and immigration transfers require the receiving federal route.
